(CHICAGO) Illinois Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger is now praising GOP President-elect Donald Trump, after saying during the campaign that he would not vote for him. Kinzinger appeared Tuesday morning on CNN.
The congressman from southwest suburban Channahon is one of the few Republicans who believes in man-made global warming, but he told CNN he is not concerned that Trump’s policies will damage the environment, even though Trump has called global warming “a hoax.”
“I think he’s going to do the right thing” Kinzinger said. “While I believe in the need to go after free energy, you also have to do it not at the cost of the U.S. economy, so there’s a fine line to walk there. I think you’re going to see a Donald Trump look at this in a very respectful…..a very understanding that he has an impact on the future of not just our country but the world. I’m going to give him a lot of space to figure that out. I’ve been pretty impressed by what I’ve seen so far since the beginning of the transition.”
Kinzinger also says he has no doubt that Trump’s former campaign rival Ben Carson, will do a good job running the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Carson adviser Armstrong Williams recently said “Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency. The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency.”
However Kinzinger says despite that lack of experience, he feels Carson will hire the right people to keep HUD running effectively.
