(CHICAGO) — In the race for governor there’s a new flap over the legal property tax breaks that Democrat J.B. Pritzker got on one of his Gold Coast mansions.
The Sun-Times says Prtizker got about $230,000 in property tax breaks by arguing the multi-million dollar Astor Street mansion is” uninhabitable” because the plumbing is shot.
Republicans trotted out their former chairman Pat Brady to the mansion site to cry foul.
“We have one of the leading candidates for governor. The guy right now is consolidating all the power of the Democratic Party,” Brady said of Pritzker. “Mike Madigan, the labor unions, the trial lawyers are getting behind J.B. Pritzker and he’s using that power, or has used that power. He’s just your typical Chicago politician that rigs the system, engages in a con-game, to benefit himself.”
In response, the Pritzker camp says their man legally appealed his property tax assessment, just like rival Chris Kennedy and even Gov. Bruce Rauner have done.
