(CHICAGO) Mayor Rahm Emanuel is raising eyebrows by pledging more than a quarter-BILLION dollars from City Hall to Chicago Public Schools, and Governor Bruce Rauner is arguing it’s a needless risk.
Rahm won’t say where the money’s coming from, but Rauner has an idea, “The mayor has locked away $6.5 billion of property tax value – downtown office buildings locked away in TIF districts – and most of that money can’t go to fund schools. That’s sitting on almost a billion dollars in cash.”
While recording Connected to Chicago for Sunday night at 7, the governor predicted the Democrats will fail to override his partial school aid veto and then tax credits for private school scholarships will be on the table.
