OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago community is marking the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks with a display of nearly 3,000 American flags.
The Daily Herald in Arlington Heights reports that the 9/11 Healing Field in Oak Brook includes 2,976 flags — one for each victim of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 — on poles spread over a soccer field at 700 Oak Brook Road.
Each flag is affixed with a tag with one victim’s name, age and biography. There are yellow tags for civilians, red for firefighters, blue for police officers and white for members of the flight crews aboard the jets the terrorists hijacked crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
The display is sponsored by the village and the True Patriots Care Foundation.
