(CHICAGO) A leading Republican is warning negotiators for an Amazon deal to be careful not to over-promise.
Jim Durkin, the leader of Republicans in the Illinois House, is counseling the governor and the mayor not to forget who has to approve incentives.
“You make these promises, but the legislature is actually the one that has to approve it!,” says Durkin, adding “It’s usually the governor going out to make the pitch and there’s no guarantee that the House or the Senate is going to buy into it. So, when ya make the pitch, be reasonable and don’t oversell what you can deliver.”
Durkin says we don’t have to give away the store like Wisconsin did for Foxconn.
