(CHICAGO) Tuesday’s state legislative hearing on the Legionnaires deaths at the Quincy Veterans home produced a recommendation to spend $25-30M to replace the plumbing but it also produced some political sniping.
Not only were Democrats sniping, but a Republican too. Governor Bruce Rauner’s Public Health Director, Dr. Near-ev Shah was defending his stewardship when Republican Senator Sam McCann let him have it, saying “Stemming the tide of the outbreak and continuing to work the the CDC on best practices working in conjunction with our colleagues at the home and our colleagues at the CDC is one of our top priorities. We will not rest …
McCann interrupts: “I’ll wrap-up here. I’ll be very brief here. You need to get the governor’s cellphone number. You need to use it. He needs to take your call. You both need to do your jobs. Quite frankly sir, you should resign and if you don’t, the governor should demand your resignation.”
Shah responded, “ I disagree, senator.”
McCann, you’ll recall, is the State Senator Rauner tried and failed to beat at the polls.
