(CHICAGO) With the Illinois Primary just over a week away, Mayor Emanuel is trying to pressure Gov Rauner to sign the gun dealer licensing bill on his desk.
Emanuel gathered a couple of dozen gun control advocates around him and dared Rauner not to sign it, adding “He has a responsibility to tell the people where he stands. He can run, but he cannot hide from this issue.”
But Rauner needs gun rights advocates to get re-elected, so he says, “I’m advocating that we try to accomplish four things: one is to ban bump stocks, two is to try to find ways to keep our schools safer, third we should find better ways, more thoughtful ways to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill and I believe we should work together to find better ways to support our police officers.”
And when repeatedly pressed about whether he’ll sign the gun dealer licensing bill, Rauner would only say, “Comprehensive solution, that’s what I support, a comprehensive solution.”
