A Wisconsin couple and their teenage son have been arrested in the death of a 7-year-old boy, who police say was punished by the family for failing to memorize Bible verses.
Timothy and Tina Hauschultz are accused of making the child hold a 44-pound log for two hours every day, police say. Their 15-year-old son is believed to have hit and kicked the boy, rolled the log over his chest and buried him in the snow as further punishment. The boy, identified only as Ethan, died of hypothermia and blunt force trauma, a medical examiner’s report reveals.
The Hauschultzes were the boy’s court-appointed guardians, court documents reveal. They were also caring for his twin brother and another sibling. Timothy Hauschultz has been charged with felony murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His son faces a felony charge of reckless homicide, while Tina Hauschultz has been charged with failing to prevent bodily harm and intentionally contributing to the delinquency of a child.
