(CHICAGO) — A crack in a steel support beam supporting a portion of Lake Shore Drive has caused the need for emergency roadwork and has closed down a portion of the drive.
The Chicago Department of Transportation says a northbound portion of the drive from Monroe to Grand will be closed at least through the Monday evening commute. The department is installing shoring under the structure. Images show that the road appears to misaligned.
Drivers are being diverted off at Monroe to Columbus and back on at Grand. Commuters are encouraged to use I-90/94 as an alternate.
