US Sees Highest Number of Mass Killings in 2019

The United States has seen the highest number of mass killings in 2019, according to database research from the AP, USA Today and Northwestern University.

A mass killing is defined as four or more people killed by the same incident. 41 incidents of mass killings have taken place so far this year, killing 211.

33 of the 41 cases involved firearms. The worst total mass killing in 2019 was the August El Paso Walmart shooting that left 22 dead.

One criminologist said the high number of mass killings is corelated to “an angry and frustrated time” in the U.S. The database’s revelation on 2019 also brings up a divisive topic in our country; gun control.
