An Uber driver in Atlanta was able to graduate from college after one of her riders became invested in her story.
LaTonya Young is a single mother who is a hairdresser by day and an Uber driver at night. One night, she picked up Kevin Esch for a ride to the Mercedes Benz Stadium.
Young told Esch the story about how she had to drop out of Georgia State University because she owed $700 in back tuition. Every time she wanted to pay them, her kids needed something.
A few days later, Georgia State called Young and told her that the debt had been paid. It was the passenger, Mr. Esch, who paid the bill. A few weeks ago, Young graduated with her Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. Esch attended the ceremony. He was inspired by Young’s story and was compelled to help her.
