(CHICAGO) A man was killed and at least 20 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city over Halloween weekend, police said.
The fatal shooting happened late Saturday in the in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to Chicago Police.
A man, whose age was unknown, tried to rob a business in the 2700 block of West 51st Street at 7 p.m. and someone inside shot him to death, police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
The most recent non-fatal shooting happened early Sunday in the South Side Fuller Park neighborhood.
A man, thought to be in his 20s, was walking out of a party about 1:30 a.m. in the the 4900 block of South Princeton when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was struck in the hip and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. He was not cooperating with investigators, police said.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, three men were shot in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side, leaving one critically wounded. They were sitting in a vehicle parked in the 9000 block of South Greenwood when a white car passed by and someone inside started shooting, police said.
The men drove to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where one of the men, 21, was listed in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the cheek, right eye and buttocks, police said. A 23-year-old man was shot in the right arm and back, and a 34-year-old man in the left shoulder. Their conditions stabilized, police said.
Less than an hour earlier, a man was shot in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side. The 23-year-old was walking in the 5700 block of West Fullerton at 10:25 p.m. when another male walked up and opened fire, police said. He was shot in the back and left shoulder and was taken to Community First Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
At least 15 other people have been wounded in Chicago shootings since 5:40 pm. Friday.
