Meet Madigan Challenger: Jason Gonzales

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) does have a primary election challenger for state representative named Jason Gonzales who is much more than a token candidate.

The Gonzales pitch is that after 45 years in Springfield, it’s time for  Madigan to go so that the state can get a budget and term limits and independent maps.  And here’s why he thinks he could.

“We’ve had a demographic shift in the district over the past, say 20 years and it’s now primarily Latino, in fact about 73-percent Latino,” Gonzales said. “Madigan’s base is still active but certainly not as strong as it used to be. I think my chances are very good. I need 10,000 votes and I believe I can find them within the 50,000 or so voters who are registered in our district.”

Nothing will change much in Springfield until Speaker Madigan is gone, but the underdog Gonazales says people in his district want change.
