(CHICAGO) A Chicago Police officer was grazed by a bullet in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side Tuesday night.
The officer, whose age and gender were not immediately disclosed, suffered the wound to their face about 10:05 p.m. in the 10000 block of South Eggleston, according to Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
As officers were trying to stop a car wanted in a carjacking, the driver shot a squad car’s windshield, Guglielmi said. Backup officers returned fire after they saw the driver shooting at police, but the driver was not struck.
A suspect was taken into police custody after the shooting and a gun was recovered, Guglielmi said.
