(CHICAGO) Two people were injured after Illinois State Police troopers fired at an armed man in a cab late Thursday night. ISP officials said troopers were conducting a routine traffic stop in the West Chatham neighborhood around 8:30pm. While conducting that stop, the troopers were flagged down by a taxi near 77th and Vincennes.
When troopers approached the car, they found an armed man in the backseat, and shots rang out. Witnesses told ABC-7 police were trying to physically pull one person out of that cab.
One person was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious to critical condition, the other to St. Bernard Hospital in fair to serious condition. One trooper was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but fire officials said that trooper was not shot, and it was unknown why he was taken from the scene.
