Adam Eaton names finalist for Gold Glove

(CHICAGO) Adam Eaton of the Chicago White Sox has been named a finalist for the Rawlings Gold Glove^® Award.

Eaton, 27, is joined by Boston’s Mookie Betts and Houston’s George Springer as finalists for the award among American League right fielders. He is attempting to become the first White Sox player to win a Rawlings Gold Glove^® since pitcher Jake Peavy in 2012, the first position player since third baseman Robin Ventura in 1998 and the first outfielder since Tommie Agee in 1966.

Eaton, who was a finalist for the award as a center fielder in 2014, led all major-league outfielders in 2016 with 18 assists and ranked second behind Betts with 22 defensive runs saved. His 18 assists were the most by a Sox outfielder since Jim Rivera’s 22 and Minnie Minoso’s 19 in 1955.

Eaton batted .284 (176-619) with 29 doubles, nine triples, 14 home runs, 59 RBI and 91 runs scored over 157 games this season, his third with the Sox. He led the AL in triples and ranked 13th with a .362 on-base percentage.

Gold Glove^® winners will be announced on November 8 at 7:00 p.m. CT on ESPN. Nominations were based 75.0 percent on voting by AL managers and coaches and 25.0 percent on defensive metrics.
