(CHICAGO) Former Donald Trump adviser Roger Stone was on WLS Wednesday morning to deny a New York Times report that he is under FBI investigation for links to Russia, during last year’s Presidential campaign.
Longtime Republican operative Roger Stone told “The Big John and Ray Show” on WLS that he had no contact with anyone in Russia, saying “It is false, and therefore I welcome any truly unbiased investigation because frankly, this is really getting tedious. I have no Russian clients, I have no Russian money, I had no contact with the Russians or anyone representing the Russians or anyone who was an intermediary for the Russians. The entire thing is a false narrative which I think is being put out by former Obama intelligence officials.”
Stone is mentioned in a Wednesday New York Times front page story that says the F.B.I. has closely examined him and at least two other people close to Trump, although it is unclear if their calls were intercepted. They are Carter Page, a businessman and former foreign policy adviser to the campaign, and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who resigned under pressure from Trump on Monday night. The White House has admitted Flynn misled Vice President Mike Pence about Flynn’s conversation with a Russian ambassador before Trump was inaugurated.
The Times story also quotes four unnamed current and former American officials who say phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election.
On Twitter Wednesday morning, Trump denounced “this Russian connection non-sense” as “merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign.”
Trump also tweeted “The fake news media is going crazy with their conspiracy theories and blind hatred.” He said, “This Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign.” Trump also added in the post that “(at)MSNBC & (at)CNN are unwatchable. (at)foxandfriends is great!”
