Chicago Alderman Needs Police Protection After Gang Threatens Him

In the aftermath of two Chicago police officers being shot in the Back of the Woods neighborhood, the alderman who represents the area has been reportedly threatened by street gangs.

Alderman Raymond Lopez who has been heavily critical of the violence that’s plagued the 15th ward due to gang fighting, including a mass shooting Sunday in the Brighton Park neighborhood that killed two and wounded eight others.

Lopez hasn’t responded to reports that he’s received additional protection, but did speak out on the weekend’s violence. “I am thankful today that no innocent lives were lost, no children were shot, no police officers were shot. But that will not always be the case as long as we continue to harbor these kinds of criminals in our communities,” Lopez said.

According to the Sun-Times, officers are watching the alderman’s office and home after an alleged threat by the Satan Disciples.
