(WASHINGTON) –– The Justice Department, the Federal Communications Commission, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security have announced the nationwide roll-out of the National Blue Alert Network and according to Acting Associate Attorney General Jesse Panuccio, Blue Alerts are operationally similar to Amber Alerts and can be broadcast on TV, radio or sent to cellphones and other wireless devices:
The National Blue Alert Network will be managed be the Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. It aims to enhance the safety of law enforcement officers by providing rapid dissemination of information to law enforcement, the media, and the public about violent offenders who have killed, seriously injured or pose an imminent threat to law enforcement, or when an officer is missing in connection with official duties.
