After re-appointment, Lightfoot has “better understanding” with Mayor

(CHICAGO) Although Mayor Rahm Emanuel has re-appointed his critic, Lori Lightfoot, to be Police Board president, she says she’s very happy for the re-appointment.

She points out she now is not critical of Rahm for trying to do police reform without a court-ordered consent decree, “I don’t spend a lot of time looking in the rear-view mirror. This is an important time in our city on a number of different fronts, not the least of which is whether our public schools are gonna open on time. I know the mayor is very focused on that issue. We had a very good conversation and I think we have a better understanding of each other.”

Lightfoot declined to speculate on the possibIlity that the mayor re-appointed her in part because he doesn’t need her as a political rival.
