(CHICAGO) Yet another big property tax hike is on the way.

It’s another $225 million dollar property tax hike for Chicago public schools.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is trying to sound reluctant about it, saying “I don’t take lightly, nor should anybody, asking taxpayers for anything, but this is for education. I’m not for doing this generically, willy nilly. Not for doing that.”

The mayor says the money shores up teacher pensions and prevents cuts in school programs that are raising student achievement scores and graduation rates.
