(CHICAGO) — The Chicago Department of Aviation is giving a heads up to O’Hare travelers and employees that effective May 30 and continuing through the winter, the Airport Transit System, or people mover, will be closed Monday through Friday.
The bus shuttle service will run every 10 minutes, providing frequent service to passengers who are traveling between terminals or to and from the economy parking lots.
To guide passengers on where to board the bus, signage will be in place in the terminals and near entrances to ATS platforms providing directions to shuttle bus stop locations.
The people mover will continue to provide full service on Saturdays and Sundays, the heaviest days for travel.
Since April 2018, the people mover has been shutdown nightly between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. The overnight closures will continue until the 24 hour closure takes effect on May 30.
The temporary closures are to accommodate work needed to modernize and expand the system, which will be upgraded with a larger new fleet of cars to serve more passengers connecting from the terminals, parking, and eventually, the new multimodal facility that is now under construction on the northeast side of O’Hare. It will provide a central access point for parking and rental car operations from Mannheim Road, allowing travelers to bypass the central O’Hare roadway system.
