(CHICAGO)  In the campaign for mayor, challenger and former police superintendent Garry McCarthy is accusing Mayor Emanuel of “pay-to-play politics.”

McCarthy says Rahm ought to be investigated for accepting a $35,000 campaign contribution from developer Dan McCaffrey one day after the Plan Commission approved the master plan for one of his projects.

No connection, says McCaffrey, but he says, “It doesn’t pass the sniff test. The optics of that are bad. And this is not the only time it’s happening.”

So does McCarthy accept donations from developers? “I’ve gotten some donations from some people who I believe are developers, low-level stuff like $250, maybe $1,000, I dunno. But nothing to the scale that’s happening here.”
