Will 30,000 cameras help solve Chicago’s crime issues?

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) At City Hall, Police Superintendent  Eddie Johnson revealed in city budget hearings just how many spy cameras there now are in Chicago.

Big brother would be proud. Listen to Johnson telling the aldermen how many cameras are out there:

“The City of Chicago now has roughly 30,000 cameras that we can look at. That’s the highest amount of cameras that we can view in a police dept in this country. I think London is the only city that has camera usage greater than the City of Chicago.”

And Alderman Walter Burnett Jr thanked Johnson for adding personnel to actually keep an eye on the camera monitors, “That’s helpful because we’ve always had cameras but nobody was lookin’ at them, right? So now, it means something.”
