Emanuel accused of covering up city water problems

(CHICAGO) Mayor Emanuel’s political enemies are up in arms about a delayed response in officials warning residents that a sample of water-metered homes shows a 17% increase of lead in the water.

Alderman Scott Waguespack, leader of the city council’s Progressive Caucus, denounced the mayor for the delay and had this advice for homeowners, “What I understand from what I got from the back room just now is tell your residents to install a filter.”

Candidate for Mayor, Paul Vallas, accused Emanuel of a cover-up, “I think it’s time for us to have a federal and state environmental regulators as well as the state’s attorney’s office investigate.”

And another candidate for Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, says  “As a mother and a homeowner, it is completely outrageous to me that this administration did nothing to inform us of unsafe lead levels in drinking water.”
