Law Enforcement Appreciation Day – commemorated in divergent ways

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)    In the races for mayor and aldermen, Bill Cameron says today’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was commemorated in divergent ways.

Paul Vallas thanked his two police officer sons for their service. Former Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy paid tribute to his police officer father.

A large group of liberal candidates for aldermen including 7th Ward candidate Jedediah Brown voiced support for the Civilian Police Accountability Council ordinance.

“When the residents have a greater stake in how their city is policed and how officers are held accountable, we will have a city where people will respond more to the police, have better relationships with the police and we’ll solve more crime.”

But CPAC probably isn’t going anywhere because it would take control of the police dept from the mayor and give it to the communities.
