A 17-year-old girl is heard on police body cam footage apologizing after an officer shot her three times. Oxnard, California authorities released video of the May 3 incident Thursday.

In it, the teen, armed with a 12-inch kitchen knife, is seen advancing toward Officer Timothy Roberts. He backs away numerous times telling the girl to put down the knife.

She’s heard saying, “What happens if I reach for it?” And, “Shoot me. I’ve been waiting all day. I’ve been waiting. Come on.” She then advanced quickly toward Officer Roberts and he fired.

Roberts and another responding officer immediately called for EMS and began first aid as the girl, doubled up on the ground, is heard saying “I’m so sorry.”

As of Thursday, the teen was still in the hospital. Officer Roberts has been placed on leave pending investigation per protocol. The other officer had been trying to ready a non-lethal beanbag but wasn’t quick enough.
