A Gary, Indiana school has apologized after a special education teacher awarded an 11-year-old boy with a “most annoying male” award in front of the boy’s father, classmates and principal. The father told WFLA that he was upset but didn’t want to create a scene and tried leaving the “award” on a table. The special education teacher insisted that the family take it home.

The fifth-grader is non-verbal and rocks back and forth. The father says that special education teachers call him all of the time because they don’t know how to handle autistic students. The school apologized and took “disciplinarian action” against the teacher but the father says he is moving his family out of that school district.
