Arizona Governor to Pull Nike Plant Incentives over Kaepernick, Betsy Ross Flag Flap

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has announced that his state will withdraw plans to offer lucrative incentives to Nike to get them to build a plant in the Pheonix area. His decision to nix Nike comes after the shoemaker pulled it’s Betsy Ross flag shoe from markets at the urgency of football player turned activist Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick pointed out to Nike that the flag on the shoe was used before the United States abolished slavery.

“Nike has made its decision and now we are making ours,” Ducey said on Twitter. “Arizona’s economy is doing just fine without Nike. We don’t need to suck up to companies that consciously denigrate our nation’s history.” Ducey also called Nike’s shoe pull “a disappointment and terrible decision.” More than 500 jobs were expected at the Nike plant.
