Georgia Sued Over ‘Fraud Test’ For Puerto Ricans

The state of Georgia is being sued by Puerto Rican citizens who say they faced discrimination while applying for a drivers license.

According to the lawsuit, Puerto Rican applicants have had their birth certificates held for “fraud review” and sometimes don’t get them back for months.

The lawsuit also claims applicants are quizzed on their native country, with questions about local food and wildlife, and even trick questions – like asking about a non-existent train ride from San Juan to Fajardo.

Attorneys say the quiz resembles “the tests applied by segregationists to block voter registration of people of color”. State officials say they’re following the law.
