Alligator Spotted in Chicago Lagoon

While alligator sightings are common in Florida, the amphibious creatures aren’t known to make many trips to Chicago. Which is why animal officials are at a loss in explaining how a gator ended up in a man-made lagoon.

Resident Rencie Horst-Ruiz says she was walking around the lagoon at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when she spotted the alligator, which she estimates is between four and five feet long. Although she managed to take a picture of it before it disappeared under the water’s surface, animal experts were unable to find it.

Nonetheless, police have issued a warning, urging residents to stay out of the water and to keep their eyes open when strolling around the lagoon.
