On Wednesday, the World Cup Champion USNWT were honored with a ticker tape parade in Manhattan. And New York Governor Andrew Cuomo used the occasion to sign off on new pay equity legislation for the state.

The law removes a loophole that allows for pay discrimination based on gender. Cuomo declared “”If you don’t pay women what you pay men, then you have no business in the state of New York”.

A number of prominent lawmakers have also decried the soccer pay gap, including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Beto O’Rourke, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
