2 Moms Trying to End Violence Gunned Down in Chicago

Two of the people killed in fatal gun incidents in Chicago over the weekend were mothers trying to prevent violence.

Chantel Grant, 26, and Andrea Stoudemire, 36, were members of a group called Mothers Against Senseless Killings. As part of its campaign against handgun violence, the group often sent volunteers to occupy areas of the city, hoping their presence would deter violent acts. That’s what Grant and Stoudemire were doing on Friday when someone in a blue SUV pulled up and gunned them down. The women, each of whom had four children, were found dead on the corner of 75th Street and South Stewart Avenue — not far from their homes in the South Side of Chicago.

A total of eight people were killed and 40 were injured over the weekend in separate incidents. Police are searching for a suspect in the deaths of Grant and Stoudemire, they say.
