Air Canada has come under fire after a ticketing agent tried to get an elderly woman to shack up with a complete stranger for the night.

The incident occurred over the weekend when the 71-year-old woman and a male passenger, who has been described as being half her age, failed to make their connecting flight. “The airline agent said, ‘OK, we just have one room available and you will share it with this guy,'” the unidentified woman’s daughter says. “The guy was also shocked. He said, ‘But I don’t know her’ and my mom said, ‘I don’t know the guy.'” The daughter says it took “several hours” for the airline to agree to giving them separate rooms.

Air Canada reps have apologized, saying forcing strangers to share hotel rooms is not their policy.
