The Justice Department claims a group of AT&T employees took more than a million dollars in bribes to unlock phones in a hacking scheme.
According to the indictment, a Pakistani man named Muhamad Fahd paid call center employees to install malware and hardware devices that gave him access to AT&T’s internal computers.
He then used that access to “unlock” more than two million phones, which allowed him to re-sell the phones without an AT&T contract attached.
Fahd allegedly paid out more than a million dollars in bribes over a five-year period, including more than $400K to one call center employee.
