Experts say there’s no doubt – a nuclear reactor was involved in a deadly August 8 explosion – that the Russians are trying to keep a lid on. They point to a number of quickly decaying isotopes, Business Insider reports.

The Russians have been coy about what exactly took place, though, president Vladimir Putin has said they are testing new military technology with an unlimited range, which can’t be intercepted.

US intelligence suspects a superweapon, a nuclear-powered cruise missile, was tested and failed.

According to a former Russian employed chemist, that would make since, if they were working on a new, compact, reactor. The disaster killed at least seven people and spread radioactive dust across nearby populations.
