Scientists Fertilize Eggs From The Last Two Northern White Rhinos

Scientists in Italy are making a last-ditch effort to save the northern white rhino – by fertilizing eggs from the last two remaining.

Scientists harvested eggs from two female rhinos named Najin and Fatu, who are the only northern white rhinos left after the last remaining male died last year.

They say seven of the ten eggs have been matured and fertilized using frozen sperm from two males. If successful, the embryos will be transferred into ‘surrogate mothers’ in an attempt to keep the species alive.
