A federal judge has blocked Missouri’s new, more restrictive abortion rules from taking effect – at least for now.

On Tuesday, a U.S. District Judge issued a temporary block while legal challenges from the ACLU and other organizations play out in court.

The so-called ‘heartbeat’ bill, which was signed into law back in May, effectively outlaws abortion after eight weeks and does not include exceptions for rape or incest. Similar laws in other states like Ohio and Alabama have also been blocked by federal judges.
