Over 50 percent of America’s cats are overweight or obese. A new study conducted by Purina found cats who are overweight or obese have a greater risk of joint disease and other health problems, much like humans.

44 cats were given personalized weight loss programs that were used for a year and included eating low-calorie vegetables, new toys to play with and feeding them less.

Cat owners who participated in the study found that as their cat lost weight they were happier and played more.

Some owners have been known to diet along with their cats while others sent their cat to fat camp.
