FDA Pushes for Stronger Breast Implant Warnings

The FDA wants breast implant maufacturers to use a “black box warning” much like the one you see on cigarette packages. The regulator wants to the warning to let those considering implants know that implants shouldn’t be considered “lifetime devices” and that complications like serious cancer risks could arise from them over time.

The FDA says that 20% of patients have to have their implants removed within eight to ten years. Officials say that many women don’t feel they’ve been appropriately informed about breast implants and have received numerous chronic health complaints from patients.
