A newly released business survey is revealing that hiring by U.S. companies has fallen to a seven-year low and fewer employers are raising pay.

The research conducted by the National Association for Business Economics shows that only one-fifth of surveyed companies have hired additional workers in the past three months.

The hiring slowdown comes at a time when more businesses are reporting slower growth of sales and profits.
