New LAX Policy turns Airport into ‘Carmageddon’

LAX officials have issued an apology after their ban of Uber and Lyft vehicles from the airport’s pickup level turned into what one driver describes as “carmageddon.”

The new policy, which requires arriving passengers to take shuttles to designated pickup points, went into effect Tuesday in an effort to relieve congestion in pickup lanes. However, it did the exact opposite, causing gridlock, overcrowded shuttles and a whole lot of unhappy travelers, many of whom waited well over an hour to be taken to their waiting rides.

Although airport execs said they were sorry for the “unacceptable level of service,” they have no plans to call off the ban — which doesn’t sit well with ride share drivers. “Imagine what it’s going to be like on a Friday,” says Uber driver Nicole Moore. “Imagine what it’s going to be like on the holidays. Drivers count on the airports. This is our bread and butter.”
