The opioid crisis across the country is driving some new and creative strategies to deal with it.

One approach is rapid access to medicine that prevents withdrawal sickness, called “medication first.”

Patients in some parts of the U.S. can get prescribed medicine on their first day of treatment and once they start feeling better, they choose their next steps.
