Coconut Wine In Philippines Kills 11, Sickens 300

Those traveling to the Philippines might want to avoid drinking the coconut wine that is popular there during the holidays.

According to local health authorities, more than 300 have been sickened and 11 have lost their lives between Thursday and Sunday. In each case, the affected had consumed the drink.

The Food and Drug Administration in the country has previously warned that production and sales of lambanog is unregulated, with many unscrupulous home brewers illegally using methanol as an additive.

Last year, 21 people died after tossing back lambanog.
