Sheriff: Amazon Refused to Give Up Name of Thieving Driver

A Florida law enforcement agency is accusing Amazon of refusing to cooperate in an investigation that involved one of the company’s drivers.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says a surveillance camera on December 21st captured an Amazon employee leave a package on the doorstep of a Davenport home. After taking a picture of the box to confirm it had been delivered, the driver is seen picking up the package and leaving with it. When investigators asked Amazon officials for help in identifying the thief, they were told, “You need a subpoena,” Judd says. “I’m not surprised by much anymore, but this lack of cooperation from Amazon floors me,” he says. “All we needed was a name. It is impossible to believe this was this guy’s only theft.”

Investigators have since determined the employee’s name is Jose Campos, 27. He’s been arrested, charged with theft and released pending a court appearance, Judd says. While he’s glad justice was served, Judd says it could have been a lot easier had Amazon cooperated. “This is just irresponsible on their part,” he says. “They apparently don’t care about the ongoing safe and secure delivery of their packages to their customers and exposing other customers to burglary and theft.”
