A Chinese scientist has been sentenced to three years behind bars for experimenting with ‘gene-editing’ in babies.

Last year, professor He Jiankui claimed to genetically ‘edited’ two twin girls to make them resistant to the AIDS virus.

His claims raised major ethical questions and a backlash from Chinese officials. On Monday, the court accused Professor He of “seeking fame and wealth” without the proper certification to practice medicine.
