The President signed a bill into law Thursday that should cut down on the amount of unwanted robocalls the Americans receive.
The new law gives law enforcement better ability to go after robo-callers, allows phone companies to block scam callers without asking for a customer’s permission and requires companies to block robo-callers at no charge to the customer.
The new law also requires phone companies to put a system in place that will let customers know if a number claiming to be a government agency or claiming to be from the customer’s home town is authentic.
Before you breathe a sigh of relief and start turning your ringer back on at bedtime, FCC officials say that while the new law will drastically cut down on robo-calls it won’t completely eliminate them.
