Earthquakes Hit Puerto Rico

The ground and people are shaking in Puerto Rico as small earthquakes continue to hit the area.

On Thursday, a 4.5-magnitude quake took place off the coast of island territory and was felt in the capital of San Juan. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage.

Overall, more than 1,100 small rumblings have taken place since December 28. A rare event, notes Puerto Rico’s Seismic Network director Víctor Huérfano, who adds, “There’s no way to predict when it’s going to end, or if it’s going to lead to a major event.”

The deadliest quake to ever hit Puerto Rico took place in October 1918, when a 7.3-magnitude struck and caused a tsunami that killed 116 people.
