For the third straight year in a row, Chicago has seen a decrease in the homicide rate.
For 2019, the city recorded 490 murders.
This is 13% lower than 2018 when the city recorded 564.
2016 was one of the worst years in Chicago’s history with 756 homicides.
The Interim Police Superintendent announced a 17% reduction in robberies citywide and an 18% reduction in burglaries.
City leaders credit community policing and investments in social services and schools for the drop.
