US Stops Dozens Of Iranian-Americans At The Border

Dozens of Iranian-Americans returning home from Canada were reportedly stopped and held for additional questioning at the border on Saturday.

According to Masih Fouladi, an executive director at the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Customs and Border Protection agents at the Peace Arch Border Crossing in Blaine, Washington detained some for up to 10 hours. Others were allegedly denied entry and asked to return later.

Fouladi says one family told him that the officer told them, “This is a bad time to be an Iranian.”

Matt Leas, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection, denies the claims, adding, “Social media posts that C.B.P. is detaining Iranian-Americans and refusing their entry into the U.S. because of their country of origin are false.”
